Nike has decided that Colin Kaepernick will be the face of its “Just Do It” campaign, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary.
ESPN’s Darren Rovell initially made the announcement on Twitter before the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback confirmed the news. Yahoo Sports later reported that Kaep and Nike agreed to a new contract despite he hadn’t been with the company since 2011. Per the report, Kaepernick signed a “wide endorsement” where he’ll have his own branded line, which will include shoes, shirts, jerseys and more.
Nike’s ad is a picture of Kaep’s face and the caption “Believe in something, even if it means sacrificing everything.”

Wow! This is so damn powerful! Thank you, Colin! As a veteran, I can honestly say, you exemplify the true meaning of freedom of speech. And I & my brothers- & sisters-in-arms would lay down our lives for you to continue to speak. Congratulations on your deal with @Nike!— Bad A$$ Dark Angel * USMC Vet (@bobbi_bobbi) September 3, 2018
I am a disabled veteran Colin and want you to know that I get it.— Joe Williams (@a19marvet) September 3, 2018
You are one of my heroes and in good company.
My husband is a veteran and active duty military and we support you 100%!! You are an inspiration, thank you for using your voice and making tough decisions when it would have been easier to just go along with the crowd. #BlackLivesMatter— DRound (@round2609) September 4, 2018
kaep will someday get the consensus respect he deserves. he’s no different than the activists in sports history who are revered today, and we will look back and question why people still didn’t choose the right side of history. https://t.co/KL2QAJsL9i— trilly price (@John__Sheeran) September 3, 2018
Even if he never plays another game, Kaep will go down as one of the most legendary players in history https://t.co/Qr9SdHh5Vy— gabriel! (@MccrummenGbrl) September 3, 2018
Nike supports Serena and now supporting Kaep. Their campaigns are working on my heart. https://t.co/DbImotDh5m— Yoli (@aNameToCarry) September 3, 2018
This is just Colin Kaepernick’s latest victory. A judge recently stonewalled the NFL’s attempts at getting his collusion grievance against them thrown out. Arbitrator Stephen B. Burbank ruled there was enough evidence to require a full hearing.
Congrats to Kaep! You know we’re with him!
