Another day, another world title and gold medal for Simone Biles

The Greatest Gymnast Of All Time won her fifth all-around title at the World Championships in Stuttgart on Thursday (October 10th).

She has won the last five world all-around titles and is the defending Olympic all-around champ.

This victory was her 22nd world championship medal overall, with 16 of them gold. She is simply the best. Her margin of victory on Thursday was 2.1, the largest of her career.

Biles already holds the women’s record for medals. Thursday’s win leaves her one medal shy of the all-time record (men’s & women’s) of 23 held by the great Vitaly Scherbo of Belarus.

Every time Biles steps on a mat, the audience and the world expects to be amazed and witness greatness and she delivers time and again. Even if she’s not always aware of the greatness in the moment.

“I don’t know; I feel like it’s not me,” Biles told the New York Times. “Sometimes I wonder how I do it. I feel like it’s just, like, not me. I wish I could have like an out-of-body experience to witness it, because sometimes I think I’m going crazy.”

No, you’re not going crazy, Simone. You’re in the zone.

That rarefied air only the most uber-talented ever visit, only the all-time greats inhabit, and where the greatest evers permanently reside.

Biles will have an opportunity to surpass Scherbo and set a new all time medal mark in the event finals over the weekend. She is five-time defending floor exercise champion, the defending vault champion, and a two-time balance beam champion.

Even if you go the conservative route, and why would you with Biles? She should win at least win one more medal to equal the record. Though two or three is more likely.

Well done, Simone. She’s simply the best.
