Memphis, Tennessee–born singer K. Michelle has described her brand of R&B as “to the point, straight, no chaser,” but her path to stardom was anything but. After earning a musical scholarship to attend Florida A&M University, she switched her major to Biology with an eye on becoming a nurse.  But the piano-playing grad and winner of the Miss FAMU pageant never stopped singing. A no-frills YouTube video of her singing “Where They Do That At” got her noticed, and the soulful single mom got signed to Jive Records. After years of delay, the star of reality shows Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta and New York dropped her long-anticipated debut album, Rebellious Soul, in August 2013.
