5 Things We Know About Kendrick Lamar's 'Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers'

The hip hop world is ready for the rapper’s resurgence

The King of Compton is back and ready to show the world why he’s such a Damn good artist. Kendrick Lamar revealed on his website oklama.com earlier this week that he is ready to drop a new album for the streets, which caused a frenzy on social media.

While the rapper didn’t drop too much information in his announcement, here are five things we do know about the most anticipated album of the year.

  1. This will be his final album under Top Dawg Entertainment.

BOSTON, MA - OCTOBER 03: Rapper Kendrick Lamar is interviewed by Forbes Magazine Senior Editor Zack O'Malley Greenburg at the 2017 Forbes Under 30 Summit on October 3, 2017 in Boston, Massachusetts.

BET.com previously reported the musician’s statement, which he posted on his website, that this will be his final album under Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE). “As I produce my final TDE album, I feel joy to have been a part of such a cultural imprint after 17 years... May the Most High continue to use Top Dawg as a vessel for candid creators,” he wrote.  Looks like he may go out with a bang after a five-year hiatus.

  2. The album’s announcement was released on Lamar’s company website, oklama.com.

ATLANTA, GA - JANUARY 08: Rapper Kendrick Lamar performs during half time during 2018 College Football Playoff National Championship Game at Centennial Olympic Park on January 8, 2018 in Atlanta, Georgia.

The forthcoming album was announced on Lamar's website oklama.com and due to this being his last album on TDE, audiences are wondering if new music will be released under the rapper’s company, pgLang. pgLang was founded by the K.Dot and his business partner Dave Free. The media company launched in 2020 and is a service company that acts as a record label, production house, and publishing operation.

  3. This will be his fifth album, the first in five years since ‘Damn’ was released.

NEW YORK, NY - JANUARY 28: Recording artist Kendrick Lamar accepts the Best Rap Album award for 'Damn' onstage during the 60th Annual GRAMMY Awards at Madison Square Garden on January 28, 2018 in New York City.

The last body of work we heard from K.Dot was ‘Damn,’ which won Best Rap Album at the 2018 Grammy Awards, an NAACP Image Award for Best Outstanding Album, BET Hip Hop Award for Album Of The Year, amongst many other accolades. The hip-hop artist proves that greatness takes time so only time will tell if this upcoming album will receive the same fate.

  4. The album is called 'Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers'.

NEW YORK, NY - JANUARY 28: Recording artist Kendrick Lamar poses backstage at the 60th Annual GRAMMY Awards at Madison Square Garden on January 28, 2018 in New York City.

In the announcement earlier this week, the actor revealed the title for the album, calling it ‘Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers.’ The statement also mentions any further information about the project will come from oklama.com only. We’ll keep our eyes on the website as updates come in.

  5. The album release date was revealed.

INGLEWOOD, CA - AUGUST 27: Kendrick Lamar attends the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards at The Forum on August 27, 2017 in Inglewood, California.

The summer is looking like a musical wonderland and you can add Lamar’s upcoming album to the list. The album is set to release on May 13th.
