MC Hammer was one of the biggest acts in music in 1990. His third studio album, Please Don't Hurt 'Em, reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart on June 9, 1990.
The success of the album came from the popularity of Hammer's single "U Can't Touch This," a song that continues to be used in commercials and movies to this day.
Please Don't Hurt 'Em ranked No. 1 for 21 weeks. It also saw longevity on the Hip Hop/R&B Albums chart, spending 28 weeks at the top. On the album, MC Hammer sampled songs from musical greats including Prince, Marvin Gaye and James Brown.
