Ice Cube Negotiating a Leap to "21 Jump Street"

Looks like Ice Cube is continuing to make acting and screenwriting moves in Hollywood. The former N.W.A. rapper is in negotiations to join Columbia Pictures' film treatment of 21 Jump Street for Sony.

Variety.com reports that Cube will star alongside Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum, who portray a pair of undercover cops working in high schools and colleges. Cube will play Captain Dickson, the duo's leader.

21 Jump Street is based on the popular 1980s series starring Holly Robinson Pete and Johnny Depp.

Cube recently directed the 2010 Oakland Raiders documentary Straight Outta L.A. for ESPN. According to Deadline.com, he is also preparing to shop Chrome and Paint. The film is a gritty Boyz N' The Hood–style drama that Cube wrote focusing on the custom-car scene of South Central Los Angeles. He uses the subculture of tricked-out Mercedes, BMW, and Low Rider cars to frame a drama about the temptation to place materialism above love and loyalty.
