Thunder Even The Series With A Decisive Win Over The Pacers In Game 2 Of The NBA Finals
After a stunning loss in the first game of the series to the Indiana Pacers, the Oklahoma City Thunder rebounded with a dominant performance in Game 2 of the NBA Finals, winning 123-107. The Thunder are now 18-2 this season after a loss, including 12 double-digit wins
Although the game was close in the first quarter, OKC pulled off a 19-2 run in the second quarter, and the lead ballooned to 23 points. The Pacers responded with a 10-0 run, making the score 52- 39, but the Thunder was in complete control for the remainder of the contest.
For the Thunder, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander posted 34 points and eight assists, hitting 11 of his 21 field goals, shooting 11 of 12 from the free-throw line. Following subpar performances in Game 1, Jalen Williams scored 19 points and Chet Holmgren added 15. Contributing off the bench, Alex Caruso scored 20 points and Aaron Wiggins added 18 points, hitting five 3s.
Following the victory, Gilgeous-Alexander shared how the team refocused and refused to panic after dropping Game 1.
“We did some things good tonight. We did some things bad,” Gilgeous-Alexander said. “We’ve got to be able to get better and be ready for Game 3.”
For the Pacers, Tyrese Haliburton scored 17 points, Myles Turner added 16, and Pascal Siakam chipped in 15.
Siakam described the tenacity of the Thunder, who avoided going down 0-2 in the series.
“They did a good job being disruptive,” Siakam said. “They got out in transition. ... They were super aggressive, which is what they do."
Thunder coach Mark Daigneault spoke about how their loss in Game 1 gave them much to think about and how they would field their team effort in Game 2.
“That's a long 48 hours when you lose Game 1 like that, coming into Game 2,” Thunder coach Mark Daigneault said. “The guys did a great job of just focusing on what we needed to do to stack to a win tonight. That's how we got it.”
Game 3 is scheduled for Wednesday in Indianapolis, marking the first finals game in that city in 25 years.
