This week’s roundup is all about navigating anxiety, donating, and seafood boils.

Victoria Monét just released her first children’s book "Everywhere You Are," created to help kids and working parents navigate separation anxiety while Temple University is giving Kendrick Lamar his academic flowers with a new course unpacking his lyrics, legacy, and cultural influence.

  • Temple University Introduces Kendrick Lamar Course Exploring His Cultural Impact and Musical Legacy

    Kendrick Lamar joins the long list of artists who have had a course at a university based off of them and their catalogue.

    According to WHYY, Temple University has launched a course dedicated to the Compton native exploring his life, lyrics, and cultural themes from race, culture, and Urban America and how it connects to hip hop.

    The new course, entitled "Kendrick Lamar and the Morale of M.A.A.D City," will be available during the Fall 2025 semester and will be taught by Timothy Welbeck, a professor of Africology and African American Studies at Temple University.

  • Victoria Monét Releases New Children's Book

    Victoria Monét dropped something new, and no it's not music but something for the babies.

    Monét has released a children' book, entitled "Everywhere You Are," which was created to help kids deal with separation anxiety and it offers different ways for hard-working parents to cope.

    In the book "a gentle moon comforts a young star as night ends and they separate," according to it's official synopsis.

    "Paired with the whimsical and imaginative art of Alea Marley, "Everywhere You Are" reminds us that even when someone isn’t right next to us, their love still carries on in our hearts."

  • Tyra Banks Opens Up An Ice Cream Shop In Honor Of Her Mother

    Tyra Banks is doing her thing on and off the runway, but this time it's something she and her mother can both enjoy.

    Banks has opened up an ice cream shop from her franchise, Smize & Dream, which is located in Sydney in honor of her mother.

    In a recent video, Banks revealed the store to her mother, who met her with tears of joy.

    “Oh my God, this is huge,” her mother, Carolyn London, says in the video. 

    “I thought it was going to be a little ice cream store. Oh my God, this is beautiful.”

  • Travis Hunter Signs $46 Million Deal With Jacksonville Jaguars

    Things are looking up for rookie, Travis Hunter, as the second overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft found his new home this past week with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

    The former University Of Colorado player signed a $46 Million deal with the team, guaranteeing the player to a four-year rookie contract.

    Jacksonville's first-year general manager James Gladstone says Hunter has "the capacity to alter the trajectory of the sport itself."

  • Seafood Boils Are Making Their Way To Red Lobster

    If it's one thing about Black folks, we love a good seafood boil. Instead of having to figure out where to go or make it in the house all the time, popular food chain Red Lobster has announced they will be serving seafood boils.

    This is one of the latest additions to the Crabfest menu. The franchise has been undergoing changes since 35-year-old CEO Damola Adamolekun took over, helping the company climb it's way out of bankruptcy.

    "Red Lobster's Crabfest is the ultimate summer dining experience, featuring exciting and flavorful dishes like our new Seafood Boils," said Nichole Robillard, Chief Marketing Officer of Red Lobster.

    "Whether you're a longtime Red Lobster lover or participating in Crabfest for the first time, we've got something to bring everyone joy."

  • Kyrie Irving Donates $50,000 To The Tamir Rice Foundation For His 23rd Birthday

    The Tamir Rice Foundation received a large donation recently, and it's all thanks to Kyrie Irving.

    The foundation was created by his mother, Samaria Rice, which was made to "invest in the growth and enrichment of all children through after-school programs in arts and culture by allowing them to express their truth to improve their lives as they grow into young adults."

    Samaria created a GoFundMe to celebrate her son's 23rd birthday.

    "As our family approach Tamir's 23rd birthday, I'm asking for 23 dollars for 23 years without him," she wrote.

    A social media post was made by Kiandria Demone, a viral entrepreneur and web developer, to call for donations and support.

    Demone shared an update on Wednesday, expressing gratitude after seeing Irvin's donation of $50,000.

    "OMG! When I saw the fundraiser this morning, it was at $1,500 with a goal of $6K," she wrote on Threads.

    "In less than an hour, we got it to $9K just by showing up. Then… Kyrie Irving saw the post. 🤯 Now she’s raised 10x her goal!"
