One of the mot revered figures in hip hop has linked up with one of music’s biggest pop stars.

Justin Bieber and Rick Rubin hopped in the studio Tuesday (Jan. 13) to work on the Canadian singer’s new album, due out sometime this year.

Bieber posted a photo with Rubin on the selfie app, Shots, Tuesday evening. The 20-year-old’s team brought Rubin on board to add an “urban” feel to the album, TMZ reports.

Their studio session was the first of more to come, although it’s unknown exactly how much Rubin will be involved in the project.

Rubin is a man that any artist would be lucky to snag a session with. He co-founded Def Jam alongside Russell Simmons in the '80s, and is a noted producer having worked with Jay Z, Kanye West, LL Cool J, Run-DMC and huge rock acts like Aerosmith, Red Hot Chili Peppers, AC/DC and Metallica.

Beside Bieber, Rubin is reportedly working with Kanye West on his forthcoming LP.
