‘General Hospital’ Star Sonya Eddy’s Cause of Death Revealed

The veteran actress producing partner and friend Tyler Ford confirmed the news.

The cause of death of actress Sonya Eddy, who starred in ABC's General Hospital, was officially revealed after news broke on Monday (Dec. 19) that she had passed away.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Eddy's producing partner and friend, Tyler Ford, confirmed that the veteran actress had died of an infection after a nonemergency surgery at Providence St. Joseph's Hospital in Burbank, California.

Eddy is widely-known for playing nurse Epiphany Johnson on the long-running soap opera for 17 years.

On Tuesday (Dec. 20), actress Octavia Spencer broke the news of her friend's death.

“My friend @sonyaeddy passed away last night,” the Oscar-winning actor’s post said. “The world lost another creative angel. Her legions of @generalhospitalabc fans will miss her 💔🕊️ My thoughts and prayers are with her loved ones, friends, and fans!”

General Hospital executive producer Frank Valentini took to Instagram to express the cast's reaction to the news.

“I am heartbroken about the loss of the incredible @sonyaeddy. I truly loved her, not only as an actress, but as a friend. The lights in the hub of the nurse’s station will now be a little dimmer, but her spirit and light will live on in both the show and our set,” posted Valentini. Her castmates have also taken to social media to express their sympathy to her loved ones.

Eddy’s film and television credits date back to 1995 and include Barbershop, Daddy Daycare, Matchstick Men, Bad News Bears, The Perfect Game, and Will Smith’s Seven Pounds.
