Issa Rae Steps Into Doechii’s World for a Must-See Performance of 'Denial Is a River'
TDE signee Doechii has the internet buzzing once again, thanks to her latest performance of “Denial Is A River,” featuring Issa Rae.
For the newest installment of Genius’ “Open Mic” series, the “Alter Ego” emcee teamed up with the “Insecure” show creator for a unique live therapy session.
Genius producer Andrés Tardio shared the story behind recruiting Issa Rae for the performance on social media.
“I had this crazy idea while listening to Doechii’s ‘Denial is a River’ one day,” he wrote on X. “What if Issa Rae played the role of Doechii’s therapist in a special live rendition of the song? That idea is now real! Doechii and Issa showed up and made magic with their incredible talent and star power. Just undeniable greatness. So many great minds came together to bring this to life in such a dope way. Watch the credits for some of those names but also for a special bonus moment too,” he added.
“Denial Is A River” is featured on the Florida native’s three-time Grammy-nominated mixtape, “Alligator Bites Never Heal.”
The collaboration marks Doechii’s latest live performance since her debut on NPR’s “Tiny Desk.” The video has already racked up over 3.2 million views on YouTube since its premiere on December 6.
