BMI Honors T-Pain and GloRilla for Shaping the Sound of Two Generations

The 2025 BMI Awards paid tribute to T-Pain’s legacy and GloRilla’s breakout success, spotlighting two artists redefining hip-hop across eras.

GloRilla and T-Pain will both be honored at this year’s BMI R&B/Hip-Hop Awards, set to take place August 5 in Los Angeles. The two artists, who dropped a collab on Glo’s debut album called “I Luv Her,” are being recognized for very different seasons in their careers, but both are walking into the room with major wins.

T-Pain is receiving the BMI President’s Award, a career honor reserved for artists whose influence has shifted the sound of music. Since the mid-2000s, he’s delivered a catalog full of chart-toppers and club staples, including “Buy U a Drank,” “I’m Sprung,” and “I’m N Luv (Wit a Stripper).” His run revolutionized the way artists utilized Auto-Tune, and his impact extended beyond his releases, helping shape some of the biggest hits of the era. BMI called his approach “boundary-pushing” and pointed to the way his music continues to connect with fans across generations.

GloRilla will be honored with the BMI Impact Award, a nod to the momentum she’s built since her breakout in 2022. After making waves with “FNF (Let’s Go),” she’s stacked Hot 100 entries like “Yeah Glo!,” “Whatchu Kno About Me,” “TGIF,” and “Wanna Be” with Megan Thee Stallion. She’s already picked up two BMI Awards and landed Grammy nominations for best rap performance in both 2022 and 2024.

She’s in strong company—previous Impact Award recipients include Ice Spice, Tems, Arlo Parks, Edgar Barrera, RAYE, P2J, and Tito Double P. Now she joins the list with a fresh string of hits and a new collaboration with one of the genre’s legends as she creates a legacy of her own.

The ceremony will also recognize the most-performed tracks of the year, plus the writers and producers behind them. Be sure to tune in on August 5. Congratulations, T-Pain and GloRilla, much deserved!
