Eminem Puts Upcoming Film on Hold

Eminem delays production of Southpaw to work on new music.

Fans waiting on Eminem's return to the silver screen will have to wait a little longer. The star has had to put his upcoming boxing film, Southpaw, on hold again after being denied for a grant from the state of Michigan and previously being dropped by Filmworks, reports Hip Hop DX

The drama, which stars Em as a left-handed welterweight boxer who becomes a champion before undergoing a tragedy, and later becomes determined to make a comeback, was scheduled to begin production earlier this year. However, it has been delayed, reps claim, because Em wanted to work on music.

"He's focusing on his music right now, so while he's doing that, while he's in that space, he wanted to put this on hold for the time being," said Dennis Dennehy, executive vice president of marketing and publicity at Interscope Records. "What I'm told is when the film does get made, the plan is that the bulk of it will be shot in Michigan. That was always the understanding."

Em did apply for $8.9 million in Michigan film incentives but his application was withdrawn over a reported "talent issue."
