Georgia Authorities Investigate Death of 4-Year-Old Kameron Jamel Williams Found in Hot Car
Authorities in Georgia have announced that they are investigating the death of a four-year-old boy who was discovered in a hot car.
Four-year-old Kameron Jamel Williams was reported missing at the Summer Trace Apartment Complex on West Turner Street in Metter, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. Officers responded to the scene.
The child was soon discovered inside a vehicle at the complex by a relative after a search of the area was conducted by both officers and family members.
“The preliminary investigation reveals that Kameron walked out of the apartment and began playing outside,” authorities said. “A nearby camera captured a person, presumably Kameron, entering the car and remaining inside.”
On Monday, June 30, Candler County Coroner Jamie Anderson informed PEOPLE that his office received a report regarding the child's discovery in a hot vehicle. At 1:59 p.m., local time, Williams was declared deceased.
In Metter, the temperature reached a peak of 93 degrees on June 22, as reported by the Weather Channel.
According to authorities, Kameron's body was transported to the GBI Coastal Crime Lab Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy. The autopsy results are currently pending.
On Monday, individuals sought further information from the Metter Police Department and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. The GBI stated in its news release that the case file will be submitted to the Middle Judicial Circuit District Attorney's Office upon completion of the investigation.
