Fulton County Jury Awarded Georgia Parents $2.25M for Video Posting of their Baby Decapitated in Delivery

The lawsuit claimed that the pathologist hired for an autopsy posted videos of the autopsy of their son on social media.

On Wednesday, June 18, a Fulton County jury awarded Georgia parents $2.25 million in their lawsuit accusing pathologist Dr. Jackson Gates of posting videos of an autopsy of their decapitated baby.

Jessica Ross and Treveon Isaiah Taylor Sr., hired Dr. Jackson Gates to perform an autopsy on their son, who they lost in delivery in 2023, according to AP News.

In September of 2023, the couple filed a lawsuit claiming that Gates posted, without their permission, videos of the autopsy of their son on the social media website Instagram.

After receiving a letter from the couple’s attorneys, Gates initially removed the videos but then posted them again, according to the couple’s attorneys.

According to AP News, Gates' attorney claimed that the doctor makes posts about autopsies in an effort to educate other pathologists as well as push for outside evaluations when patients or guardians feel that a hospital has engaged in wrongdoing.

The couple’s attorneys, in a statement, said that the doctor “poured salt into the couple’s already deep wounds.”

“This young couple trusted him with the remains of their precious baby,” they said. “Gates, in turn, repaid this trust by posting horrific images of their child for the world to see.”

The parents sued the doctor who delivered their son as well as the hospital where the delivery occurred. That case is still pending.
