Michael Strahan Reflects on the ‘Spirit’ of Daughter Isabella During Her Brain Cancer Battle
Isabella Strahan, the daughter of Michael Strahan, showed a remarkable will to live that helped her overcome her fears during her battle with brain cancer.
In 2023, Isabella was diagnosed with medulloblastoma, a fast-growing malignant brain tumor that develops in the cerebellum. While the tumor was removed in an emergency surgery, the University of Southern California student underwent chemotherapy, multiple surgeries and radiation, and since last July 2024, has been cancer-free.
In a new “People” cover story with Isabella, 21, and his youngest daughter, Sophia, 20, Michael reflected on the grueling experience of watching Isabella fight brain cancer.
“She wasn’t eating much,” the television personality and former NFL player told the publication. “She was thin and tired and bald and all the things you hate to see your kid go through.”
But Michael added that Isabella maintained a strong “spirit.” “One of the things she said, probably the hardest thing I had to hear was, ‘Dad, I’ll do whatever. I want to live.’”
He continued, “I knew she wouldn’t quit. She was going to fight—and she did.”
Isabella’s health journey will be chronicled in the upcoming ABC special “Life Interrupted: Isabella Strahan's Fight Against Cancer,” which premieres at 10 p.m. on February 5 before being available to stream on Disney+ and Hulu the following day, February 6.
