Cardi B Says Her ‘Girls’ Girl’ Energy Backfired Big Time
Cardi B is finally answering the question fans have been whispering for years — is she the drama?
The Imaginary Playerz rapper sat down with Kelly Rowland for the latest episode of Spotify’s Countdown To ahead of her sophomore album, Am I The Drama? (dropping September 19). Seated in bold red bubble chairs against a dreamy blue sky set, Cardi got candid about the album’s themes of victim versus villain — and how being a girls’ girl in the industry sometimes comes with a price.
“Well, I feel like in my seven years of fame, people have been dragging me through the mud to the point that I can’t even recognize myself anymore,” Cardi admitted. “It felt like every other month I’m canceled… It’s like, ‘Shut up, you want to be the victim so much, and you know what you be doing.’ It’s like, I really don’t be doing anything. Like, I just feel like I couldn’t get it right. And even when things seem like it’s calm, b**ches will start f**king with me.”
The constant scrutiny forced her to take control of her power. “I’m gonna stand in my power when it comes to everything, fame will really f*ck with your head,” she said, explaining how she had to shift her mindset to survive the chaos.
Her experience gave her empathy for up-and-coming artists. “When I see like a new little b**ch coming up or some sh*t and I feel like they kind of cool and I feel like people be dragging them, I be sliding their DMs like, ‘hey, you know this is temporary,’” Cardi shared. But even generosity has its lessons. “Sometimes you gotta know who to do it with because I have done that to b**ches that done went and f**ked my man and all that sh*t. So it’s like, you gotta know who you being nice to,” she said. “These b**ches out here, you out there feeling sympathy for them and wishing them the best, and these b**ches want to be you and f**k your n**ga and you don’t even realize it,” she explained.
Rowland was left stunned as Cardi laid it all out with her signature unfiltered honesty — the same energy driving Am I The Drama? Seven years after her debut, Cardi is flipping the narrative, owning her experiences, and reminding everyone that being a 'girls’ girl doesn’t mean she won’t stand her ground.
