RHOP’s Wendy Osefo Resigns Professorship Amid 16 Fraud Charges
“Real Housewives of Potomac” star Dr. Wendy Osefo is no longer serving as a Distinguished Visiting Professor at Wesleyan University after facing 16 fraud charges along with her husband Eddie Osefo.
A representative for the reality star clarified that Osefo wasn't fired. “Contrary to recent media reports, Dr. Wendy Osefo was not terminated from a faculty position at Wesleyan University. She formally submitted her letter of resignation prior to any public announcement made by the university,” the spokesperson told People.
Osefo’s resignation was accepted by Wesleyan University, as they confirmed in a statement that, “Dr. Osefo made the voluntary decision to step down from her role. This decision was made independently and communicated directly to the university before any external reports surfaced," the statement detailed.
The timing of Dr. Osefo and Wesleyan’s separation comes right after Wendy and her husband were arrested for 16 fraud charges that stem from a 2024 burglary report at the Osefo residence while they were away on vacation. According to the report, the couple claimed approximately 80 pieces of jewelry, luxury goods, clothing and shoes, worth more than $200,000, were stolen. However, recently in a press release, the Carroll County Sheriff's Office in Maryland said "detectives found that over $20,000 of items reported stolen had been returned by the owners to the locations the items were purchased. Further, detectives found images of a homeowner wearing jewelry that had been reported stolen after the burglary took place."
During her tenure at Wesleyan, Osefo taught a course called The Sociology of Reality TV. In a past interview, she described the professor position as meaningful, especially after past teaching roles where she “didn’t feel appreciated.”
As the legal proceedings move forward, the Osefos are home and preparing to defend the charges.
