Brother Nature’s Old Racist Tweets Spark Debate On Judging People’s Childhood Behavior
You may know Kelvin Peña by his social media personality, Brother Nature, the young animal enthusiast who posts videos of himself with wild animals. Although Brother Nature and his deer friends, specifically Canela, have taken the internet by storm, someone recently drudged up some past offensive tweets posted by Peña, and people are torn.
Peña, 20, has become a social media celebrity after posting a video of Canela wearing a gold chain and meandering in his yard. After Brother Nature blew up with over two million followers, he was able to create a nonprofit called Everybody Eats, which is aimed at "helping single-parent families during the holidays and after-school kids year-round."
Last year, he used the foundation to help send supplies to hurricane victims in Puerto Rico.
Despite doing great work for animals and people, someone found tweets from 2012 in which Peña, who was about 12 at the time, made racist and offensive remarks
"This does not look good at all," responded one person on the thread.
"Brother Nature really disappointed me," someone else tweeted, adding "I don't even feel comfortable calling him Brother Nature. He will now be referred to as Kelvin Peña."
After seeing his past tweets resurface, Peña posted a heartfelt apology
"I started using twitter when I was 12 years old, I was very impressionable and was seeking attention," Peña wrote. "I am sorry to all of the people that I offended and have let down. I apologize for 12-year-old Kelvin and take total responsibility for my words. Everyone changes, everyone learns, everyone makes mistakes.
"I was a child and am now a man asking you to accept the apology of a young boy," he concluded.

While some people expressed their disappointment, most people rallied behind Brother Nature and said it's unfair to criticize his childhood actions
Some were so unbothered by Brother Nature's old tweets that they had a little fun with the story
