Doris ?Dorie? Miller defends U.S. ships during Pearl Harbor attack.

<p><a href="http://www.history.navy.mil/faqs/faq57-4.htm" target="_blank">Doris &quot;Dorie&quot;&nbsp; Miller</a>, a Black cook onboard the <i>USS West Virginia</i>, heroically took over a machine gun and fired at Japanese planes during the infamous surprise attack at <a href="http://www.history.navy.mil/photos/events/wwii-pac/pearlhbr/pearlhbr.htm" target="_blank">Pearl Harbor</a>.
