Common Continues Hollywood Takeover With Two New Roles

Oscar winner joins Being Charlie and Suicide Squad.

Looks like Common is gunning for another Oscar. The rapper-turned-actor — though it seems to be the other way around these days — has signed on to two new projects following his Academy Award win for Selma (he won Best Original Song along with John Legend).
The multi-talented artist has joined the cast of David Ayer's Suicide Squad, says the Hollywood Reporter, joining the previously-cast Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Viola DavisWill Smith, Jared Leto and several others for the mega-budget film.

Suicide Squad follows a group of super villains who are forced to go on covert missions for a shadowy government agency in exchange for commuted sentences.
The rapper will also star in Rob Reiner's upcoming drama Being Charlie, about an 18-year-old who breaks out of rehab and later meets an equally troubled young woman.
No word on what roles Common will play in either film.
What is abundantly clear, however, is that Common's acting career is red hot. His projects include the crime drama Run All Night with Liam Neeson and Ed Harris, which was released last month, and the action thriller Hunter Killer with Gerard Butler, William Dafoe and Billy Bob Thornton, which he will shoot next.
Hopefully Common will find some time to hit the recording booth between his commitments on film sets! Check out the actor talking about his latest film Run All Night below. is your #1 source for Black celebrity news, photos, exclusive videos and all the latest in the world of hip hop and R&B music.
