Soulja Boy Ordered to Pay $4 Million in Sexual Battery Civil Lawsuit
Rapper Soulja Boy has been ordered to pay over $4 million in damages after a California jury found him liable in a sexual battery civil lawsuit brought by a former personal assistant.
The woman, only identified in court documents as Jane Doe, initially sued the “Crank That” rapper, whose real name is DeAndre Cortez Way, in January 2021, alleging years of physical and sexual abuse while working for him.
RollingStone reported that on Tuesday (April 9), a Santa Monica jury ruled in her favor, awarding damages for assault, sexual battery, gender violence, intentional infliction of emotional distress, unpaid wages, and punitive damages.
Doe began working for Soulja Boy in December 2018. According to her suit, a romantic relationship soon developed, as did the alleged abuse. Doe claimed the abuse continued until December 2020, when she said she was “violently attacked again after trying to retrieve her belongings” from the rapper’s home.

“We’re happy our client was vindicated, and the jury believed her claims of physical and sexual assault,” one of Doe’s attorneys, Ronald L. Zambrano, said in a statement. “We’re looking forward to moving on to the punitive damages phase of the case.”
Attorney Neama Rahmani added, “Today’s verdict is just the beginning of justice for Soulja Boy’s victims and other victims in the music industry.”
Soulja Boy has maintained his innocence and was not found liable for several other claims in the lawsuit, including false imprisonment and creating a hostile work environment. He and his attorney, Rickey Ivie, argued in court that Doe fabricated the allegations for financial gain.
Meanwhile, the rapper is still facing another lawsuit alleging assault and sexual battery.
