Nia Long And Larenz Tate’s Undeniable On-Screen Chemistry Makes A Major Comeback
“Love Jones” fans! It’s your time! The movie’s stars, Nia Long and Larenz Tate are reuniting to light up the big screen with Black love again. The two on-screen lovers are teaming up again for a Netflix romantic drama.
The plot of the film is under wraps, but it is said that the film will lean into the emotional arc and aesthetic to Maxwell’s album, “Urban Hang Suite,” a romantic and introspective neo-soul album exploring love, longing, and personal growth.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the film is yet untitled, but it will be written by Kay Oyegun (“This Is Us”) and directed by Eugene Ashe, known for his directing on the gorgeous “Sylvie’s Love” that starred Tessa Thompson and Nnamdi Asomugha. Long and Tate will not only star, but they will also serve as executive producers, alongside Maxwell, John D. Hammond, and producers from Macro Film Studios.
This film marks Long and Tate’s first romantic lead together since “Love Jones,” although they have worked together on various projects, including the upcoming Michael Jackson biopic. In 2021, Tate reflected on the magnetic chemistry they shared during their “Love Jones” auditions. He said their connection felt natural from the start. The world felt it too! It’s why “Love Jones” remains a cult classic 28 years later and their characters, Darius Lovehall and Nina Mosely, are still adored and revered.
Here’s hoping some of that same lovey, dovey nostalgia shows up in this new romantic drama. With “Urban Hang Suite” being released in 1996, fans are hoping for that “old school” love to play out on their screens between Long and Tate yet again.
