Michelle Obama Opens Up In New Podcast About Why She Started Crying After Trump’s Inauguration

The former First Lady gets candid on “Michelle Obama: The Light Podcast,” which debuts on March 7.

Former First Lady Michelle Obama has launched a new podcast with Audible Original.

Titled “Michelle Obama: The Light Podcast,” launches on March 7 on Audible, with new episodes released every Tuesday thereafter. Mrs. Obama’s first guest is Hoda Kotb and other guests over the eight-episode podcast include conversations with Tyler Perry, Oprah Winfrey, Conan O’Brien, Gayle King, David Letterman, and Ellen DeGeneres.

The title of the podcast is based on her bestselling book The Light We Carry: Overcoming in Uncertain Times, released in November 2022.

In the first episode, Mrs. Obama opened up about Donald Trump’s 2016 inauguration to which she had a front seat view.

“To sit on that stage and watch the opposite of what we represented on display, there was no diversity, there was no color on that stage, there was no reflection of the broader sense of America and many people took pictures of me and they were like, ‘You weren't in a good mood.’ No, I was not. But you had to hold it together like you do for eight years and then you walk through the Capitol, you wave goodbye, you get on Marine One and you take your last flight off flying over the Capitol where there weren't that many people there.”

She continued, “We saw it, by the way and then we went to Andrews Air Force Base, said goodbye to the military, got on Air Force One and when those doors shut, I cried for 30 minutes straight, uncontrollable sobbing because that's how much we were holding it together for eight years.”

Trump and his administration claimed the crowd size at the 2016 inauguration was the largest in history, which was a lie, according to USA Today.
