Killer Mike Sues Security Firm After Being ‘Wrongfully Detained’ At 2024 Grammys
After experiencing “public humiliation” at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards, Killer Mike filed a lawsuit against the S&S Labor Force for his arrest at the 2024 ceremony.
According to Rolling Stone, the 3-time Grammy winner has alleged that the security firm weaponized power to “degrade, embarrass, and physically hurt” the Atlanta rapper. At the time, Killer Mike, real name Michael Render, had won Best Rap Album, Best Rap Song, and Best Rap Performance for “Scientists & Engineers,” featuring André 3000, Future, and Eryn Allen Kane. The artist and his team were reportedly departing the media center to the Crypto.com Arena red carpet when Killer Mike was halted and “accosted” by a security guard despite having “all requisite credentials.”
In addition to allegedly suffering from ongoing distress since his brief detainment, the rapper claims he experienced “unnecessary public embarrassment, distress, and professional harm” from the February 4, 2024 experience. The lawsuit was filed on Monday, February 3, in Los Angeles Superior Court, with Killer Mike accusing S&S Labor Force of “false arrest and imprisonment, assault, battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress and negligence.”
“Defendants wrongly caused the plaintiff to be falsely arrested and had him placed in jail during the remainder of the Grammy Awards Ceremony,” the lawsuit reads. “Plaintiff was therefore deprived of the valuable opportunity to be present at the awards ceremony where he was scheduled to appear on primetime television in front of a huge international audience to appear and speak and be recognized on the telecast for his historic achievements.”
Killer Mike is seeking damages after claiming to have undergone emotional distress and reputational harm.
