Five-star basketball prospect and USC commit Alijah Arenas is currently in a medically induced coma after being involved in a serious car crash early Thursday morning in Los Angeles, according to ESPN's Shams Charania.
The 18-year-old son of former NBA star Gilbert Arenas was reportedly driving his Tesla Cybertruck around 4:55 a.m. when the crash occurred. Details about the crash remain limited as the family deals with this challenging situation.
Alijah had recently made headlines in the basketball world after committing to USC earlier this year. The 6-foot-6 shooting guard with a 7-foot wingspan was widely regarded as one of the top prospects in the country, earning McDonald's All-American honors. He had recently reclassified from the 2026 class to 2025, accelerating his path to college basketball at USC under coach Eric Musselman.
Gilbert Arenas, known during his playing days as "Agent Zero," enjoyed a successful NBA career that included three All-Star appearances. The former Washington Wizards star has remained in the public eye as the host of the popular podcast "Gil's Arena," where Alijah actually announced his USC commitment earlier this year during a live episode.
Gilbert shares four children with his ex Laura Govan: Izela, Alijah, Hamiley and Aloni. He also has a daughter named Gia with another former partner.
Our thoughts are with the Arenas family during this difficult time as they hope for Alijah's full recovery.
