It’s not often a fan will receive a response from his or her favorite artists after writing them. It’s even more rare to receive a letter posthumously.

According to the Washington Post, this is exactly what happened after one of Kid Cudi’s fans died recently.

The news media site reports the 18-year-old fan, who died of a heart attack, left index-sized card messages behind on videos about his struggles with a heart condition that causes some parts of the heart to thicken.

Ben Breedlove noted the third time he survived a near-death experience he had a vision of Cudi telling him to keep going. On his tumblr page, the artist wrote “Iam so sad about Ben Breedlove. I watched the video he left for the world to see, and him seeing me in detail, in his vision really warmed my heart. I broke down, Iam to tears.”

The 27-year-old rapper goes on to write, “We love you Ben. Forever. Thank you for loving me. To Ben’s family, you raised a real hero, he’s definately mine. You have my love.”
