Queen Latifah Says Whoever Portrays Her In a Biopic Needs to Be ‘Brave’
Queen Latifah wants the best candidate to take on her life story in a future biopic.
‘The Equalizer’ star was a guest on ‘TODAY With Jenna & Friends’ on May 16, where around the three-minute mark, she discussed her planned biopic, which was announced last year.
“It’s gonna be hard to cast that,” Latifah admitted. “It’s so many mes. I’ve gotta cut this thing into parts because I’ve lived a life, honey, and you’ve gotta be brave to play this character. Because it’s gonna be a lot of ups and downs and a lot of adventures.”
Latifah wants fans to see “what the journey was like” along with “challenges” and “dark times” she had to overcome. “I think it would be inspirational for anyone who has ideas [that] they want to bring to fruition,” she continued. “That there will be challenges. If they can see me make it through some of those things, maybe they will feel inspired [to] do it as well.”
Produced by Flavor Unit, Westbrook Studios and Jesse Collins Entertainment, Latifah’s biopic will be part of a hip-hop movie series.
“Hip Hop’s impact has expanded beyond just music and has created a lasting impression on culture and society overall,” Latifah said in a joint statement with Flavor Unit’s Shakim Compere, per Variety. “It is a dream to be able to collaborate with friends and colleagues that have not only a shared understanding, but are able to tell these stories that were the backdrop of our lives.”
