More Than 75,000 Want Greg Hardy Out of the NFL

Grisly domestic violence photos were released last month.

While Dallas Cowboys DE Greg Hardy is gearing up to collect winter coats for foster kids, a Change.org petition to remove him from the NFL has collected over 75,000 signatures. The outcry began last month when photos of Hardy's alleged May 2014 domestic assault against his ex-girlfriend Nicole Holder were released to the public.

The petition, addressed to Commissioner Roger Goodell and Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, urges the league to dismiss Hardy entirely. The only punishment the athlete has faced for the assault was a ten-game suspension, which was reduced to four after his appeal.

SONGS THAT TAKE A STAND AGAINST DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

“As a Philadelphia Eagles fan, I am having an increasingly hard time supporting a league that gives players the privilege to play in the NFL despite these kind of actions," petitioner Freddy Martinez wrote. "With the evidence publicly released, the next step is absolutely clear: Greg Hardy must go right now. Please sign my petition if you agree.”

Neither Goodell nor Jones has responded to the petition, however, removing Hardy from the NFL would save millions. According to Hardy’s contract, most of his money comes from a pre-game roster bonus. If he were to be released before this Sunday, they would save $3.6 million.

Hardy joined the team in March for a one-year deal, after a sixth round draft to the Panthers in 2010. The Cowboys face the Redskins next, Monday at 8:30 p.m. ET.
