Hip Hop Awards 2023: Here Are This Year’s Winners

Kendrick Lamar came out on top with four wins!

From honoring the trailblazers who've paved the way to shining a spotlight on the genre's rising stars, the “BET Hip Hop Awards” 2023 celebrated the past, present, and future of one of the most dynamic and impactful musical genres in history.

Rapper, actor, and executive producer Fat Joe hosted the evening, which aired on Tuesday, October 10, and saw veteran emcee Kendrick Lamar lead with four wins, including “Hip Hop Artist of the Year,” “Lyricist of the Year,” “Best Live Performer,” and “Video Director of the Year” alongside Dave Free.

Lil Uzi Vert and Metro Boomin tied with two wins each, and Lil Durk and J. Cole for their collaboration on “All My Life.”  Bronx native Ice Spice was crowned this year’s “Best Breakthrough Hip Hop Artist,” while Blak Sherif made his home of Ghana proud, accepting the “Best International Flow” award.

The night also featured several thrilling performances by artists, including GloRilla, Sexyy Red, T.I., Jezzy, and many more.

Superstar producers and “Verzuz” founders Swizz Beatz and Timbaland accepted the “Rock The Bells Cultural Influence Award” for their cultural contributions to the genre. The pair later presented hip hop pioneer Marley Marl with the “I Am Hip Hop Award.”

Celebrated as one of hip hop's super producers, Marley Marl made waves by trailblazing the art of sampling as the house producer for the iconic Juice Crew.  Rap icons LL COOL J and Rakim paid tribute to the force changed the standard of producing in hip hop.
