Nicki Minaj put on a surprise performance at last night’s Bid to Save the Earth event at Christie’s Auction House in New York, which included a live auction and fashion show that debuted exclusive items by top designers for a “Runway to Green Collection” that will be sold in select retail stores.

The rapper was invited by Vogue’s own Anna Wintour and told the publication, “I thought that if I got involved in a cause that I felt was important, then maybe [my fans] would take the time to research it and find ways they could get involved and make a difference.”

Of course the "Moment 4 Life" entertainer stayed true to her quirky style roots during the glamorous fete, which ultimately raised $1.2 million for environmental charities.  “I knew I had to get my green on, so that’s how I came up with the green-and-white-hair,” she said. Nicki rocked the house in her version of a “Bride of Frankenstein” hairpiece that Captain Planet might appreciate, along with a leather Alexander Wang jumper.
