Lady GaGa Apologizes For "Retarded" Comment

The pop singer is sorry she said the offensive term.

The usually unapologetic Lady GaGa has found something to be sorry about.

When asked about accusations that she plagiarized Madonna’s “Express Yourself” for her first single, “Born This Way,” GaGa defiantly said in response, "I've written loads of music. Why would I try to put out a song and think I'm getting one over on everybody? That's retarded. What a completely ridiculous thing to even question me about."

The use of the word “retarded” drew the ire of advocates for intellectual and developmental disables. After being made aware of the flack, GaGa promptly issued an apology for her remarks.

Speaking with celebrity blogger Perez Hilton, Lady GaGa said: "I consider it part of my life's work and music to push the boundaries of love and acceptance. My apologies for not speaking thoughtfully. To anyone that was hurt, please know that it was furiously unintentional.”

Going further with her apology, GaGa even quoted lyrics from "Born This Way," a song about promoting social acceptance, adding: "Whether life's disabilities, left you outcast bullied or teased, rejoice and love yourself today."
