Montgomery Riverfront Brawl Blesses the Timeline with a Batch of New Memes

Violence ensued over the weekend at a Riverboat Park after a group of white men attacked a Black security guard but social media still had jokes.

Over the weekend, the Black community in Montgomery, Alabama, came together in a powerful show of unity after video footage captured a violent brawl erupting on Saturday, August 5, at a popular riverfront dock.

The altercation ensued after a group of white men attacked a Black man, described as an employee at the establishment.

Several individuals were seen rushing to the scene, with one man swimming to assist the victim. The situation escalated into widespread chaos in moments, with fights erupting in various directions.

Meanwhile, social media users did what they do best and made light of the situation with dozens of jokes and memes.

The young man who was spotted swimming was given several nicknames, including Michael B. Phelps—a play on actor Michael B. Jordan and Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps’ name—Black Aquaman, Scuba Gooding Jr, Shaquille O’Gills, and many more.

Some folks, both Black and white, even gathered for a reenactment.

It’s been reported that the dispute happened when a pontoon boat was blocking dock space reserved for the Harriott II Riverboat, a popular attraction in downtown Montgomery.

Since the incident, Mayor Steven L. Reed issued a statement condemning the violence.

“Last night, the Montgomery Police Department acted swiftly to detain several reckless individuals for attacking a man who was doing his job. Warrants have been signed, and justice will be served,” Reed said in a statement. “This was an unfortunate incident which never should have occurred.
