Wu-Tang Clan Founder Oliver “Power” Grant Dies at 52

Oliver "Power" Grant, a founding member and longtime executive producer of the Wu-Tang Clan, has died. Grant passed away on Monday, Feb. 23, at the age of 52, according to Hot 97. His cause of death has not been announced. The hip-hop community quickly reacted to the news, mourning the loss of a figure who was instrumental in shaping one of music’s most influential movements.

“Rest in Power, Power,” the Wu-Tang Clan wrote in an Instagram post honoring their colleague. Group members Method Man, Raekwon, Rza, and Gza all shared personal tributes, highlighting Grant’s integral role in the group’s success. Method Man shared a photo of himself with Grant, captioning it, “Paradise my Brother safe Travels!! 💔💔🤬 #pookie #power Bruh I am not ok.” Raekwon posted a group photo and reflected, “POWER we been everywhere …. now you everywhere! 😢🙏🏾 the most high is merciful love you.”

Gza added, “We couldn’t have done it without him. Wu wouldn’t have come to fruition without Power. His passing is a profound loss to us all. My deepest condolences to the fam.” His words capture just how central Grant was to the formation and growth of the Wu-Tang Clan, both as a creative mind and as a guiding presence behind the scenes.

Media outlets also recognized Grant’s legacy. Okay Player described him as “a driving force behind one of hip-hop’s most influential movements.” The outlet noted, “His belief in creative control and community empowerment helped shape not only a group, but a dynasty that changed music forever. His impact will live on through the culture he helped elevate and the countless lives he inspired.”
