Additionally, Virginia State University made a historic stride, and let's not forget Delaware State University received an enrollment boost.

  1. Erykah Badu Graces The Cover Of ‘GQ Germany’

    On November 27, GQ Germany's released its latest issue dedicated to the Music Icon of the Year and by no surprise they selected Erykah Badu. The four-time Grammy winner left no crumbs as she posed topless rocking her signature long micro braids accentuated with clear beads. Badu takes charge of this moment celebrating her nearly 30-year career and talks about her influence as an artist.

    "There was no genre until the name Neo-Soul was created for the album 'Baduizm' because no one could categorize what I was doing. I drilled a hole in the dam, so to speak, and all the like-minded frequencies flowed through it. It’s a formula that others can use,” she said in the article.

  2. Lupita Nyong'o Celebrates Chadwick Boseman On His Birthday

    November 29 would have been Chadwick Boseman's 47th birthday. Lupita Nyong'o, his co-star in "Black Panther,” posted a heartfelt tribute. 

    Taking to social media, Nyong'o shared a throwback Polaroid capturing the camaraderie among the film's cast, including Boseman, who embodied the iconic Black Panther, Michael B. Jordan as Killmonger, and director Ryan Coogler. Alongside the image, Nyong'o penned, "Celebrating the birthday of a heroic friend. Grateful that our paths crossed during his impactful time on Earth."

  3. Delaware State University Gets Enrollment Boost

    Congratulations to the only HBCU in the state of Delaware!

    Delaware State University, the historically black institution in Dover, Delaware, proudly declared a new enrollment milestone, as reported by WHYY. President Dr. Tony Allen shared that the university has witnessed a remarkable 3.5 percent surge, boasting 6,451 students for the fall semester. This surge marks a significant 23 percent increase since 2020, a noteworthy feat amidst the decline in college enrollments nationwide over the past decade. With aspirations soaring high, Delaware State aims to expand further, setting a target of reaching 10,000 undergraduate enrollments by the year 2030.

  4. A Presidential Debate Comes To Virginia State University

    Historic news for Virginia State University!

    Virginia State University has been chosen as the site for one of the 2024 presidential debates, marking the first time a historically Black college or university (HBCU) in the U.S. has received this distinction.

    Scheduled for October 1, 2024, the debate will occur at the VSU Multipurpose Center and will serve as the second of three official presidential debates in the upcoming general election. Per the nonpartisan Commission on Presidential Debates, the series will commence with the first presidential debate on September 16 at Texas State University in San Marcos. The final debate is scheduled for October 9 at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City.

    On December 1, the second annual United Justice Coalition (UJC) Summit will take place at the Javits Center in New York City for a full day of inspiring conversations, innovative ideas, and powerful tools for action.

    Spearheaded by Roc Nation, the event will feature countless activists and artists, including Fat Joe, Charlamagne tha God, Dr. Michael Eric Dyson, New York Attorney General Letitia James, and others. With the 2024 election season approaching, Roc Nation and the United Justice Coalition are gathering the country’s leading activists, entertainers, attorneys, and entrepreneurs for an innovative social justice summit that will examine a wide array of topics, such as civic engagement, parole laws, sentencing alternatives, and more. The summit will also have stations on-site dedicated to providing legal information and networking sessions.

  6. Dallas Cowboys Quarterback Dak Prescott and Girlfriend Announce They're Expecting

    Dak Prescott is on the brink of parenthood!

    His girlfriend, Sarah Jane Ramos, joyously announced her pregnancy to her Instagram followers. "A little bit of Heaven sent down to Earth," she penned, embellished with a white heart emoji. "Our immeasurable blessing. I cannot wait to raise a strong, confident, beautiful baby girl with you @_4dak."

  8. Porsha Williams and Simon Guobadia Celebrate One-Year Of Marriage

    This week, Porsha Williams and her husband, Simon Guobadia celebrated one year of marriage!

    The couple traveled to the United Arab Emirates in style, according to Bravo. Last year, "The Real Housewives of Atlanta" alum and the Nigerian-born businessman wed during a lavish traditional Nigerian ceremony in Atlanta.

    The attendees for the one-year anniversary included Chanel Ayan and Lesa Milan from “The Real Housewives of Dubai” and her former “RHOA” cast members Nene Leakes and Cynthia Bailey.

  9. Happy Heavenly Birthday, Shirley Chisholm!

    November 30 marked Shirley Chisholm's heavenly birthday.

    Born in 1924 in Brooklyn, New York, Chisholm embarked on a journey that would leave an indelible mark on American politics. Her historic achievement in 1968 marked a turning point as she became the first Black congresswoman, initiating a trailblazing career spanning seven terms in the U.S. House of Representatives.

    In 1969, she utilized her platform to co-found the original Black Caucus, solidifying her commitment to advocating for African-American rights and representation. A trailblazer once more in 1972, Chisholm etched her name in history by becoming the first Black candidate from a major party to seek the Democratic nomination for the U.S. presidency.

    Though she passed away on January 1, 2005, at 80 years old, Shirley Chisholm's legacy endures as an integral part of American history.
