Ready for a Housequake? Prince’s 'Sign O’ The Times' Shakes Up IMAX Screens
Prince fans, get ready to party like it’s 1987.
For the first time ever, the iconic concert film Prince – Sign O’ The Times will hit IMAX theaters across the globe in a special limited release starting August 29, 2025. The re-release is a partnership between IMAX®, Mercury Studios, FilmRise (a Radial Entertainment company), and Paisley Park Enterprises.
Originally released in 1987 and directed by Prince himself, Sign O’ The Times is widely regarded as capturing the artist at his creative and performance peak. The film blends live concert footage with cinematic flair, showcasing Prince’s genre-defying sound, unmatched stage presence, and revolutionary aesthetic.
This time around, the film has been given the full IMAX treatment. Using IMAX’s proprietary Digital Media Remastering (DMR) process, the visuals and audio have been upgraded for an immersive experience that’s as close as you’ll get to seeing Prince live. Fans will be treated to enhanced surround sound, sharp visuals, and the kind of theatre geometry only IMAX can provide.
Featured performances include hits like “If I Was Your Girlfriend,” “U Got The Look” (his duet with Sheena Easton), and of course, the electrifying title track “Sign O’ The Times.” Prince’s trusted collaborators—most notably Sheila E. and his powerhouse band—also take center stage in a film that’s part concert, part fever dream, and all Prince.
“Sign O’ The Times was always ahead of its time,” said a representative from IMAX. “Now, fans can experience it in a format worthy of Prince’s brilliance.”
U.S. distribution is being handled by IMAX, while Pathé Live will manage international release. The same global team previously brought Queen Rock Montreal to theaters, which proved a major success.
Tickets for Prince – Sign O’ The Times are available now at www.imax.com/prince, with a complete list of participating theaters.
