A’Ja Wilson And Angel Reese Earn Player of the Week Honors

Both superstar forwards led their teams to 2-1 records while putting up big individual stats.

A’Ja Wilson and Angel Reese have been named WNBA Players of the Week.

Wilson earned the Western Conference Player of the Week for the 24th time in her career, tying her with Elena Delle Donne for having the third-most of such honors in WNBA history.

From June 23-29, the Las Vegas Aces star averaged 23.3 points, 10.3 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 2.7 blocks, and 2.0 steals per game, leading the Aces to a 2-1 record for the week.

During the same period, Wilson also became the fastest player in league history to record 5’000 career points, having done so in 238 games, passing Breanna Stewart’s mark of 242. At 28 years and 321 days, Wilson became the second-youngest after Lauren Jackson, who took 28 years and 96 days to accomplish the feat.

In that same game, she also became just the 6th player in league history to compile 5,000 points, 2,000 rebounds, 500 assists, 400 blocked shots, and 200 steals, and was the fastest and youngest to hit those marks.

Reese was named Eastern Conference Player of the Week on Tuesday after averaging 19.7 points, 17.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and 2.0 steals across this most recent three-game stretch. Also, she extended her streak of 15+ rebounds in four straight games, a WNBA record.

Tyler Marsh, Sky head coach, lauded Reese’s play following the victory over the Los Angeles Sparks on Sunday (June 29).

“Her ability to be in every area of the floor tonight and the last few games have had such an impact on us,” Marsh said. “You can’t say enough… you can get caught up in the numbers, and rightfully so, because they’re amazing. But it’s little things that she does as well that don’t get noticed.”

“Her ability to relieve pressure while handling [the ball], her ability to push it in transition, her ability to initiate offense, obviously her rebounding,” he continued. “She does everything, and she’s capable of doing everything nightly… she’s thriving right now.”
