Bokeem Woodbine Recalls Tupac’s Attempt to Impress Lucy Liu
Bokeem Woodbine was a recent guest on “The Art Of Dialogue” podcast and shares an interesting story involving Tupac and Lucy Liu.
When asked about the “story behind Pac and Lucy Liu,” the actor smirks and calls it a “funny anecdote.”
“Lucy practices with escrima sticks at that time, and I remember she was mentioning to me how it was a new thing she liked to do,” Woodbine said.
“One day on set, Pac knocked on my trailer and said, ‘I just came back from Lucy’s room and I’m tryna spit game and she’s not getting it. I’m tryna get at her, and she’s just showing me these escrima sticks.’ He was like ‘Maybe if I feigned some interest, and act like I’m interested in what she’s talking to me about, it would get me closer to sealing the deal.”
He continued, speaking from Tupac’s point of view, “‘So she got me back there, got me swinging these sticks around, and I don’t care about no damn escrima,’” Woodbine said.
After asking Tupac if his strategy worked, Woodbine was told bluntly, “‘No, man, it didn’t work.’ So I told him, don’t worry bout it man. You can’t win ‘em all. It was just funny because he put the effort and time in to try and show her, like ‘Oh, I’m interested in what you’re talking about…is this how it goes?’”
His relationship with the beloved rapper was solid, with Woodbine telling Variety back in 2018 they had such a “rapport.”
“There was just a rapport,” he told the outlet.
“He took me under his wing, and he confided in me his plans to do a lot of things in film and music. And per his words, he was looking forward to us working together more down the line.”
He called the “Dear Mama” rapper “one of the last people that I’ve seen in this entertainment business that is literally larger than life.”
