Tyler Perry Steps In to Save Historic Home of South Carolina Grandmother
Tyler Perry is personally intervening in the case of a South Carolina woman entangled in a legal dispute with developers aiming to demolish her historic home.
According to unidentified sources who spoke to TMZ, the filmmaker plans to build 93-year-old Josephine Wright a new house on the land, and “they expect to break ground in the coming weeks.”
The source added, ”Tyler wanted to be able to provide a house for her that was large enough for her entire family to be together, including her grandkids.”
The “Alex Cross” star is said to be building a 5-bedroom home to house Wright and her grandkids once permits are approved.
Wright, a grandmother to 40, great-grandmother to 50, and great-great-grandmother to 16 children, says developers from Bailey Point Investment Group had been pressuring her to sell the Hilton Head Island home that has allegedly been in her family since the aftermath of the Civil War. When she pushed back, developers reportedly started to harass her.
Perry eventually caught wind of the grandmother’s story last June. Feeling inspired by her “fighter” nature, the star shared Wright's WSAV-TV interview on Instagram with the caption, “Ms. Wright, please tell [me] where to show up and what you need to help you fight.”
Last summer, NBA superstar Kyrie Irving made two donations to Wright – one for $40,000 and another for more than $24,000. Snoop Dogg has also donated $10,000 to the cause.
