Darius Garland To Miss 4-5 Months After Toe Surgery
Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Darius Garland will be out for the next 4-5 months after undergoing toe surgery.
First reported by ESPN's Shams Charania, the two-time all-star will likely miss the beginning of the season.
In an official statement, the Cavaliers shared the latest update on Garland’s road to recovery.
Cleveland Cavaliers guard Darius Garland underwent successful surgery today to repair his injury. The procedure was performed by Dr. Nicholas Strasser at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, in consultation with Cavaliers team doctor, Dr. James Rosneck (Cleveland Clinic Sports Medicine), and Dr. Bob Anderson (OrthoCarolina),” the team’s statement read.
“His status will be updated as appropriate, following a progression of treatment and rehabilitation in approximately 4-5 months,” the statement continued. “Garland is expected to make a full recovery and resume basketball activities by the start of training camp.”
The 2024-25 season was another stellar year for Garland. He averaged 20.6 points and 7.6 assists and was named an All-Star for the second time in his career.
Garland’s play helped lead the Cavaliers to the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference with their 64-18 record. As injury continued to limit him, the Indiana Pacers eliminated the Cavs in the second round of the playoffs.
According to the NBA rumor mill, Garland was reportedly named as one of the marquee players who could be traded in the offseason. Still, the injury will keep him in a Cavaliers uniform until next season.
