Body of Missing 20-Year-Old UH Student Found Days After Disappearance
Authorities have confirmed that Jade “Sage” McKissic, a 20-year-old University of Houston student, has been found dead in Brays Bayou just days after she went missing.
McKissic’s body was discovered on Monday, Sept. 15, according to a public information officer with the Houston Police Department. The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences positively identified her on Thursday, Sept. 18, the Houston Chronicle reported. Her cause of death has not yet been determined and remains under investigation, officials told People.
According to the outlet, the University of Houston confirmed McKissic’s death and shared a letter sent to students from Vice President of Student Affairs Paul Kittle.
"It is with profound sadness that we share the recent passing of one of our students," the statement began. "Jade 'Sage' McKissic was a campus resident and student employee, and a friend to many in our community."
The letter continued: "At this time, we do not have details surrounding her death. We understand that it occurred off-campus and is currently under investigation by the Houston Police Department. We are awaiting further information.”
The university added that it had "extended condolences and support to the family as they navigate this unimaginable loss," and encouraged students to seek help if needed: "In times of grief, leaning on one another can make a meaningful difference. Please take care of yourselves and each other — and reach out if you need support."
According to People, the Houston Police Department confirmed McKissic was last seen on Thursday, Sept. 11, leaving the 3700 block of MacGregor Way while wearing a black tank top and black shorts.
The Daily Cougar, UH’s student newspaper, reported that McKissic was a junior studying Strategic Communications and Advertising, served on the 2025 UH Orientation team, and worked on campus as a front desk assistant.
A relative told KHOU 11 the news was a “total shock” to the family, adding that McKissic, had “always been a great student who was involved in church and school groups.”
