Kizza Besigye, who came in second in Uganda's presidential election this year, today told reporters that he was kicked off a plane headed from Nairobi, Kenya, back to Kampala, Uganda’s capital.

The opposition leader’s followers, disbelieving the spokesman for the government of Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni, who said the state was not involved in keeping Bisigye away, have begun rioting. Police have responded with tear gas.

Last month Besigye was injured when Ugandan police arrested him after he led antigovernment marches. He sustained injuries to his eyes and arms that forced him to go seek medical treatment in the neighboring country of Kenya. He later spoke of the alleged assault.
