Chris Brown Announces New Album ‘BROWN,’ New Single 'Obvious' and Tour With Usher
Chris Brown is wasting no time kicking off his next era and he is back in album mode.
The two-time Grammy winner announced that his 12th studio album, “BROWN,” is set to arrive on May 8, and he is giving fans a new single to run with in the meantime: “Obvious.” The release follows “It Depends,” featuring Bryson Tiller, another recent track Brown dropped as he continues to build the next phase of his catalog.
Brown and Usher also shared a joint Instagram commercial teasing a North American run called The R&B Tour (Raymond & Brown), though additional details have not yet been released. It is the kind of pairing that immediately gets people talking, especially since both artists have long defined different generations of modern R&B.
The rollout also comes with a reminder that Brown’s last era was no small thing. His “11:11 (Deluxe)” album won Best R&B Album at the 2025 Grammy Awards, while “Residuals” went on to earn RIAA Platinum certification. Brown also won Best Male R&B/Pop Artist and Viewer’s Choice at the 2025 BET Awards for “Residuals,” and Brown took home the NAACP Image Awards for Outstanding Male Artist in 2025. The project helped extend the momentum Brown built with the 11:11 era, which kept his name in the mix across awards season and streaming.
That is a serious run by any standard, and it helps explain why the new era already feels like an event. Brown has spent the last year keeping his name in rotation through releases, touring, and awards-season momentum, and “BROWN” now looks poised to extend that streak.
For now, fans can press play on “Obvious” and keep their eyes on May 8. The next era of Chris Brown is officially in motion.
