Offset is explaining how advice he received from Tyler, The Creator helped him be inspired about performing and his overall persona as an entertainer and musician.

During an interview for GQ’s, the Migos rapper opened up about his sophomore solo LP SET IT OFF and why the record is inspired by Michael Jackson.

“This character, it’s bold, a little selfish, a little arrogant, very confident, talking s**t, and fearless to creativity,” Offset explained of the King of Pop-inspired looks he’s rocked in promoting his latest project and the parallel he’s making with MJ when he became a solo artist. “I’m doing my own merch designs, dancing in videos, dancing onstage with choreo and with dancers because I just want to do something that separates me from everybody.”

Offset also described how Tyler inspired him during a Roc Nation Brunch event on taking control of being a solo artist post-Migos. “I was telling [Tyler] my vision of being a standout artist, and a solo artist, and reinventing myself. I was glorifying him, telling him, ‘I respect how you stay in character [for each album],'” Offset recalled. “He was like, ‘You should do it, too. N**gas ain’t going to f**k with it at first, but n**gas never f**k with the good s**t first. They always sleep on it, and then you show them throughout the process.’ I really took that s**t to head.”

Offset released SET IT OFF last month. The 21-song LP features collaborations with Travis Scott, Don Toliver, Future, Cardi B, Latto, and Young Nudy, among others and debuted at No. 5 on the Billboard 200.
