Black Nominees Lead the Conversation at the Actor Awards
The 32nd Actor Awards nominations were officially announced Jan. 7 by Janelle James and Connor Storrie, and the list put several high-profile Black performances front and center as the guild’s membership prepares to vote ahead of the March 1 telecast.
Ryan Coogler’s blockbuster “Sinners” led film-side buzz for Black actors: Michael B. Jordan earned a Best Actor nomination, and his co-stars Miles Caton and Wunmi Mosaku were nominated in supporting and ensemble categories, with the film itself up for Outstanding Cast.
Paul Thomas Anderson’s “One Battle After Another” landed a supporting nod for Teyana Taylor, as that film led in total nominations.
In television, Sterling K. Brown received a nomination for his work in “Paradise,” while the TV categories include series and ensemble nods that highlight Black-led stories across comedy and drama.
This year’s Actor Awards (the first since the ceremony renamed itself from Screen Actors Guild Awards) will be watched closely as a barometer for the Oscars and Emmys. Check out the star-studded gallery of nominees we’re rooting for!
