Lil Tjay Arrested After Offset Shooting and Calls Him a 'Rat' After Release
A months-long rap beef that started on Twitch turned into a crime scene Monday night when Offset was shot outside the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida, and Lil Tjay was arrested a short distance away. By Tuesday morning, Tjay was out on bond, standing outside the jail, calling Offset a snitch on camera.
According to the Seminole Police Department, the incident began around 7 p.m. in the casino's valet area. A fight broke out before Offset, born Kiari Kendrell Cephus, was shot and transported to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood with a non-life-threatening injury. A representative confirmed he was "stable and being closely monitored," per Variety. Police say Offset was shot in the leg.
Lil Tjay, born Tione Jayden Merritt, 24, was apprehended at the scene and booked into Broward County Jail. He was charged with disorderly conduct, a first-degree misdemeanor, and operating a vehicle without a valid license, per E! News. His combined bond was set at $3,000. A second person was detained at the scene but has not been charged. The investigation to identify additional suspects remains ongoing.
Seminole Police spokesperson Gary Bitner told Variety that investigators believe Lil Tjay directed his associates to initiate the fight that preceded the shooting. Tjay himself has not been charged with anything related to the shooting, and police confirmed that distinction in their official statement.
Out of Jail, Mouth Running
After posting bond, Tjay did not go home quietly. Speaking to reporters outside the jail, he denied any involvement in a fight and denied shooting Offset, while simultaneously issuing a threat suggesting the question was almost offensive. "Did I shoot Offset? That sh*t is crazy," he said. "I'll smack the sh*t out of Offset. He would never play like that with me in his life."
Tjay also accused Offset of cooperating with police, calling him a "rat" and describing the moment Offset allegedly identified whoever shot him to officers. "The last thing I seen was Offset looking at me like this, 'Yo, that n***a shot me,'" he said. "N***a is a rat." When reporters asked if Offset had hit him, Tjay replied: "I didn't do no damn fighting." He then told reporters to "Ask Offset," per The Shade Room.
His attorney, Dawn M. Florio, had already issued a statement before Tjay's post-jail interview, describing reports of his involvement in the shooting as "false rumors." "Lil Tjay has not been shot, nor has Lil Tjay been charged with any shooting," she said, per Complex. "Any reporting to the contrary is false."
The backdrop to Monday's incident was already public knowledge. In early 2026, during a Twitch stream, Lil Tjay accused Offset of being broke, claiming he had loaned him up to $10,000 to cover gambling losses at a casino and was never repaid. "I seen him in the casino. He was popped, he was panicking. He was asking random people for Cash Apps," Tjay said at the time, adding that Offset had "a gambling addiction" and had been "ducking" him.
The shooting at the Seminole Hard Rock happened at the same type of venue where the original dispute allegedly began. Offset was seen smiling and taking photos with fans before the incident, according to TMZ. The investigation remains open and no shooter has been publicly identified or charged.
