His brother, Leon Sylvers III, told the outlet that Foster died in hospice after a battle with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. The family’s reporting points to a long medical struggle at the end of his life.

Sylvers rose to fame in the 1970s as a member of the family group, The Sylvers, a Southern California act that blended crisp harmonies with a polished pop-soul sound. As a group, The Sylvers scored major hits with "Fool's Paradise,” "Boogie Fever," and "Hot Line."

"You fought a good fight and ran your race the best you could. I’m happy you’re no longer suffering. You’re finally with God," wrote Erin Sylvers' daughter online.

Sylvers also found solo success as a young performer, including with the song “Misdemeanor.” His vocals on the track— featuring a standout baseline that has been sampled by major hip-hop artists like Dr. Dre—have continued to strike a chord with younger generations.

Sylvers was part of a musical family that helped shape the sound of 1970s R&B and disco, and his voice remains tied to an era that continues to resonate with younger listeners discovering the genre through streaming, social media, and sampling. His death adds another loss to a generation of artists whose work crossed over from family groups to mainstream pop culture.

“Foster was a talented singer, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist,” wrote Donnie Simpson online. “Our heartfelt condolences go out to the Sylvers family, friends, and fans.”

The family has not released additional public details, and more information is expected from relatives in the coming days. For many fans, Sylvers will be remembered as a child star who grew into a lasting part of Black music history.
