T.C. Carson Breaks His Silence on Leaving ‘Living Single’

Nearly 30 years later, the man behind Kyle Barker sits down with Erika Alexander on the ‘ReLiving Single' podcast for a real conversation that’s long overdue.

It’s been almost three decades since "Living Single" gave us the blueprint for young, Black success, love, and friendship on TV. Now, Erika Alexander and Kim Coles are giving the show its flowers and finally airing out some of the behind-the-scenes truths on their new podcast, "ReLiving Single."

This week’s episode gets deep—and emotional—as Erika sits down with her former co-star T.C. Carson, aka Kyle Barker. The two reconnect for the first time on-air in years, and the conversation turns into something rare and raw. “You were my comedy partner,” Erika says through tears. “Doing things without you was weird.” This isn’t nostalgia. This is healing.

For those who don’t know or may have forgotten, Carson was written off "Living Single" after publicly speaking out about how Warner Bros. was sidelining the show in favor of "Friends." Both were on the same lot, both were Warner Bros. productions, but only one got the full machine behind it. “We were getting less all around,” Carson said. “And then they created 'Friends' and gave them everything. So to watch that, to be on our lot and to watch that, was really kind of a slap in the face.”

Carson brought something essential to the show. His presence shaped the rhythm, tone, and dynamics that made "Living Single" work. Alexander, who played the witty, unforgettable Maxine Shaw, admitted that when he left, something in her cracked, too. “I actually didn’t even know how to be Max without you,” she says. “It was like somebody ripped your soul out and said, ‘Go.’”

Their connection ran deeper than the script could express. What they built was the result of care, trust, and shared experience. "Living Single" shaped the culture, and this podcast is finally peeling back the curtain.
