Julia Roberts’ Birth Was Paid By Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta Scott King

Roberts' family became friends with the civil rights leaders after letting their daughters attend their acting school.

Julia Roberts shared a moment that may shock you as she tells Gayle King how Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta Scott King paid for her parents’ hospital bill for the actress to be born.

“The King family paid for my hospital bill,” the actress shared.

Roberts continued, letting Gayle know how her parents couldn’t afford the hospital bill before sharing the story about how it came about.

The 55-year-old’s parents had a theater school, The Actors and Writers Workshop, in Atlanta before the Pretty Woman actress's birth.

“One day, Coretta called my mother and asked if her kids could be part of the school because they were having a hard time finding a place that would accept her kids,” Roberts told the reporter.

“My mom was like, ‘Sure, come on over,’ and they all just became friends.”
