Funeral and Livestream Details for Rev. Jesse Jackson Have Been Announced
The Rainbow PUSH Coalition has announced the details for Reverend Jesse Jackson's celebration of life services.
His family updated the plans on Thursday, adding formal services in his South Carolina hometown of Greenville, and Washington, D.C., alongside Chicago, after leaders there offered to host.
Jackson will lie in state on Wednesday, Feb. 25 – 26, at Rainbow PUSH at 930 E 50th Street in Chicago. Doors are expected to open at 10 a.m. both days.
Then, the People's Celebration at House of Hope is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 27, at 752 E 114th Street in Chicago, with doors set to open at 9 a.m.
Homegoing services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 28, at Rainbow PUSH. Doors are expected to open at 9 a.m.
Formal services will be held in South Carolina and Washington, D.C. on Sunday, March 1, and Wednesday, March 4, respectively. The exact time and location of these events have not yet been announced.
Lastly, a private homegoing service will then be held on Saturday, March 7, at Rainbow PUSH, and a livestream of the services will be shared with the public.
Jackson, 84, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 17. The civil rights icon was diagnosed with progressive supranuclear palsy as well as Parkinson's disease.
For more than six decades, Jackson stood at the intersection of faith and politics, urging America to live up to its democratic promise and challenging power in all its forms.
“He died peacefully on Tuesday morning, surrounded by his family,” his family shared online.
